Yellow Split Pea Dhal Recipe

We encourage you to experiment with spices and proportions to find your perfect combination.
Soaking Time: 3 hrs
Cooking time: 30-40 minutes
Equipment: Knife, Cutting Board, Pot
Let’s start with our homemade gluten-free Dhal:
Soak 1 cup (200 g) of Yellow Split Peas in Water for about 3 hrs.
2. Finely chop 3 Garlic Cloves & 1/2 Yellow Onion. Set half of it aside for later.
3. In a pot add rinsed and drained Yellow Split Peas, 3-4 cup (1.75-2 liters) of Water or Broth, and 2-3 tsp Salt. You can also add 2 tbsp Tomato Paste (optional).
4. Add half of the Spices listed in the Ingredients:
1 tsp Turmeric
1/2 tsp Cumin
1/2 tsp Chili Flakes
1/2 tsp Coriander
Skip the Chili Flakes if you don’t want it to be too spicy.
5. Cook over low-medium heat for 30-40 minutes.
6. Now use a small sauce pan to melt 3 tbsp of Ghee.
7. Add remaining chopped Onion and Garlic.
8. Add another half of Spices:
1 tsp Turmeric
1/2 tsp Cumin
1/2 tsp Chili Flakes
1/2 tsp Coriander
9. Fry for about 3 minutes and add to a pot with Split Peas.
10. Now it’s ready to serve! Top it with chopped Fresh Cilantro or Parsley before serving.
11. Enjoy your spicy gluten-free meal!
