Upside-Down Orange Cake Recipe
  1. To begin, you want to start by juicing half of a small orange. You'll only need 25 ml, or about 3-4 tbsp, for this recipe.

    2. To the orange juice, add 4 tbsp brown sugar and mix it all together. Set this mixture aside for now.

    3. Next, slice 2 medium sized oranges. I tried using blood oranges that I found at Trader Joe's for this video, but they ended up having a bitter taste. I would recommend using navel oranges instead or maybe slicing them even thinner than I did.

4. Now, we're going to arrange our orange slices inside an 8-9 inch baking pan. Do not use cheesecake pan (ring) for this recipe, the caramel may spill into the oven.

But first, make sure to line the pan with parchment paper and pour the orange juice and sugar mixture in it first.

Now it's time to make our butter.

6. Microwave 1 stick of unsalted butter for 10-20 seconds at a time to avoid splashing.

Set it aside to cool down a bit.

7. Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, beat 2 eggs with 1/2 cup of sugar until light and airy.

8. Slowly add the melted butter in parts and don't mix it all at once.

9. Add 2 tsp of ginger and 1 tsp of vanilla extract.
