Quince Jam/Paste Recipe (Membrillo)

Level up your charcuterie board with this Quince Jam Recipe (Membrillo).

Quince is rich in pectin, so it sets when cooked. This means you get jelly without any additional pectin or gelatin added.

In this Recipe, we gonna show you how to make delicious Quince Paste/Jelly that you can pair with cheese and crackers or use for your morning toast.

To make Quince Jam:

  1. Peel and chop 4 Quince Fruits. Discard the center part of the fruits.

  2. Transfer to a pot.

You can find this Electric burner here.

3. Add 1 cup (200 g) Sugar & 2 cups (500 ml) Water.

4. Cover with a lid and bring to a boil.

5. Lower the heat to a low and continue cooking for about 45-60 minutes.

Here comes the interesting part of making Membrillo: you can regulate the texture of the final product by controlling the amount of liquid in a pot.

The more liquid there is left when Quince pieces are fully cooked, the softer and smoother the paste's texture will be.

You can regulate the amount of liquid in a pot by adding more water if needed or by covering the pot with a lid to avoid water evaporation.

In my version of this recipe, there was almost no liquid left, so my Quince Jam is solid and a little bit grainy.

6. As all the Quince pieces become soft and squishy, take a pot off the heat and let it cool.

7. Now blend it and transfer it into a rectangular dish. I recommend using a glass container with an air-tight lid.

8. Cover and refrigerate overnight or a little bit longer. If the paste looks like jelly-it's set and ready to be served.

9. Slice it and place it on a charcuterie board with cheese and bread or crackers. The Quince Paste spreads easily, so you can eat it with your morning toast.

It stores well in a container for a very long time.

10. Enjoy!
